Gaydar is one of the UK’s leading gay dating sites, with its roots all the way back in 1999. The site caters for all men looking for other men, whether they’re after fun and flirting, something more, or just friendship. Free features are excellent, with messaging, pictures and the ability to view profiles all included. There are also social features like chatrooms, as well as charging service providers. The site is suitable for both out and discreet men, with photo blurring options. Profiles are easy to fill out and simple, but include info on XBox and Playstation contact details, body type and basic sexual info, as well as HIV and openness status. Premium is ad free, and includes a few perks, and it’s one of the cheapest subscriptions available to a dating site. If you’re a man looking for other men, for fun, sex, relationships or just friendship, then Gaydar may well be the site for you!
Gaydar is really easy to sign up for, with very little info needed before you can access all free features. You get to pick a username, and should add a picture if you want an interest in your profile, but you don’t have to to gain access. You just need to confirm your email address, and you’re in!
On Gaydar, men appear in a grid under ‘most winked’, meaning users have sent them cheeky winks most often, and in your own search grid.
These are automatically ordered by distance, but you can adjust search criteria and order by last online or newest first instead. You can message other members individually, or jump into the location based chatroom to get a feel for a few guys at once.
Everyone can view profiles on Gaydar. You can, and should, add a photo, as well as a gallery of private pics to share with men you’re getting on with (and persuade them to share their private gallery, too). You can list what you’re looking for using keywords, whether you’re out, and your interests in and out of the bedroom! Gaming tags can also be included, and the near-essential physical characteristics! Remember, the more you fill in, the more interest you’ll get from other guys.
Gaydar’s VIP membership has one main draw: an ad free experience. There are a few more perks - additional pics, private browsing - but the ads disappearing is the main positive. That might sound a bit lame in comparison to some other sites, but Gaydar plans, available in 1, 3 and 12 month packages top out at 6.99 for a single month. That’s less than half the price of most of their cheapest competitors!
Click on your picture on the top right of the screen, and go to My Settings and permanently delete profile to get rid of everything. Cancel membership fees (which will recur automatically otherwise) in the Membership tab.
Gaydar is really simple to join. Initially, signing up takes about two minutes, and very little info is needed. Profiles show everything necessary - from body type, to whether or not members are out, to HIV status. Pictures are also plentiful, especially for premium members.
All Gaydar users have access to free, unlimited messaging, allowing them to make real connections on the site whether they’re looking for romance or something more casual.
There are also open chatrooms on Gaydar where you can strike up conversations with multiple men at once. These can be fast moving, or sort of slow depending on the time of day and who is online. You can also slip into private chat if you spy someone you like!
Just like many similar dating sites with a cheeky edge, you can send winks to men who you like the look of on Gaydar. I wink is just a flirty little ‘I see you’, and if they like what they see too, then they might just start a conversation.
Gaydar has a free app, but it’s nothing to write home about. If you use the desktop version, you can keep up with things in the app when away from your computer.

Around since 1999, Gaydar has been an established name in the men seeking men dating realm. It’s a decently designed site, and if you want to keep things desktop rather than app based it’s one of the best. You can chat with a basic account, and all essential info (including HIV status) is viewable. And if you want to keep things discrete, images can always be blurred. There are men from many walks of life on the site, and though it skews somewhat younger (largely under 50) it’s not full exclusively of 20-somethings. Special features include men advertising commercial services, as well as Gaydar Travel, where you can post about travel plans up to 2 weeks before your arrival in a new place. This lets you find travel partners, arrange dates, hook ups or hangouts while you’re away or simply get info on the LGBT+ scene in your travel destination. More oddly, there’s also the streaming service, Gaydar radio. Overall, Gaydar is a safe, fun and well run site, and it does just what it says on the tin with few irritating bells and whistles!
Gaydar is a reliable and legit dating site. No doubt about it. IMO sites like Gaydar are the only real alternative to apps.
IMO the best dating site. It works much better than lame dating apps as it has loads more features and plenty of users all over the UK. The Travel function is also great and unusual. Just my two cents here.
I am happy with Gaydar, i enjoy chatting to people, it offers a chat facility not open on other apps and not wham bam thank you mam. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I like the option for a bit more.
Gaydar has improved somewhat. Over time, the transition from the old format to the new format has finally stabilised. What I find most attractive about Gaydar is the online chat facility. You can chat to guys in a large room or in private - no other site has that facility from what I see. However, it does sometimes go down, which is annoying.
